Drayson v Goldacre - debate on science journalism in the UK

This debate was much trailed in the Times Higher Ed, among the science press and the science bloggers. It was widely promoted on social media sites like FriendFeed (favoured by the science community) and on Twitter. Tickets sold out in less than 90 minutes. The event was hosted by the Royal Institution of Great Britain and it was not lost on the participants and attendees that we were in the same building that Michael Faraday worked in. I queued up for ‘waitlist’ tickets and got a seat right in ‘the gods’.

It was all a bit too ‘pallsy wallsy’ and they ended up ‘pulling their punches’. Lord Drayson and Ben Goldacre seemed to have spent most of the day trawling round the various media outlets - beginning with Radio 4 in the early morning and I think they’d come to some kind of shared position. See what you think by listening to the Audioboo below and skim through the Liveblog made during the meeting.
